Temperament, Innate Nature, and Balance: A Perspective from the Quran and Hadith

Mizaç, Fıtrat ve Denge: Kur’an ve Hadis Perspektifinden Bakmak

A person tries to understand themselves.
But most of the time, they start from the wrong place.

They try to change themselves.
Yet the issue is not changing…

It is knowing yourself.

What does the Quran tell us?

In the Quran, there is a very fundamental sign regarding the creation of man:

“There is no change in the creation of Allah.”
(Surah Ar-Rum, 30)

This verse reminds us of the following:

You are not a coincidence.
You were created within an order.

And within this order:

  • You have a nature
  • You have a temperament
  • You have a balanced structure

Are fitrah and temperament the same thing?

Not exactly the same.

But they are very close to each other.

Fitrah:
It is the essence of your creation.

Temperament, however:
It is the reflection of this essence in the world.

That is, temperament is the manifestation of fitrah in daily life.

Emphasis on balance in Hadiths

Our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) says in a hadith:

“Make it easy, do not make it difficult.”

This is not just a religious piece of advice.
It is also a principle of life.

Because everything contrary to human nature feels difficult.

And it is unsustainable.

Why does extremism disrupt balance?

Another important approach is this:

Extremism is not tolerated in Islam.

Because extremism is going beyond nature.

  • Overeating → harms the body
  • Overthinking → tires the mind
  • Excessive stress → wears out the soul

The same is said in ancient medicine:

If balance is lost, illness begins.

Why are we struggling today?

Because most people do not live according to their nature.

  • They try to live someone else's life
  • They do not know their own rhythm
  • They do not hear their own needs

And then they get tired.

But the problem is not life.
It is the incompatibility.

My approach starts here

What I do is not to teach something new.

It is actually to remind you of this:

You were already created within an order.
You may have simply forgotten that order.

Your birth time, your temperament, your body…

These show you a path.

Conclusion

The Quran, the hadiths, and ancient medicine all say the same thing:

When a person lives in accordance with their nature, they are in balance.

This is not a theory.
It is a truth.

And perhaps what we need most today is this:

Not doing more…
Learning to live more correctly.
